Medical Alert Systems, Not Just For Seniors Anymore

Medical Alert Systems, Not Just For Seniors AnymoreDeveloped and marketed in the 80’s, alert medical systems have historically been associated as product used only in the homes of retirees. Providing an added layer of protection to the family of a senior citizen living at home, medical alert companies delighted the masses by giving older family members the ability to live an independent lifestyle in their own home.

A medical alarm for elderly persons works by notifying a central response center that an incident has occurred. This is done by means of pressing the medical alert button, located a device carried either around the neck, or around the wrist. Of course, the client will need to remember to put the device on in order for it to be able to work, which is obviously problematic if the client suffers from a degeneration or memory disorder such as Alzheimer’s. In any event, once pressed, a signal is sent to the base unit. The base unit will instantaneously place a call to 911 and the response center will later alert medical emergency contacts.

Not very long after medical alarms made their debut that businesses soon realized that it wasn’t just the baby boomers who could make use of their emergency medical alert systems. Literally anyone with any ailment would benefit from these services. Today, the possibilities are endless, with a larger part of the population making use of this invaluable service. Here are just a few of the alternative uses for alert medical equipment.

  • Merniere’s Disease is an infection of the inner ear, which causes dizziness and lightheadedness. Also known as vertigo, this dizziness can wreak havoc on a person’s ability to use their fine motor skills or even walk. A simple stroll down the hallway can trigger the vertigo, causing you to fall. Sufferers of vertigo and anyone who is at an increased risk for falling would benefit from a medical alarm service.

  • In America, domestic violence is said to occur every 9 seconds and is the primary cause of injuries to women. If you’ve known a domestic violence victim, then you may also know that it is difficult to convince them to leave or even to seek medical assistance. Alert medical companies have started to integrate a silent alarm system into their devices in an effort to help victims contact the police without worrying about reprisal from their abuser.

  • Post surgical recovery can take weeks depending on the procedure. While personal support services are available in the community, access to them is limited and private services can be expensive. Caregiver burnout is common, especially with family members who are looking after recovering parents or children. This is where medical alert comes in handy, giving caregivers a chance to get out of the house to run errands without having the added stress of worrying about their loved ones.

  • Statistics show that marriage rates have been on a steady decline since the late 1990’s, with more people choosing to live alone rather than cohabitate. Living in a large metropolis can bring new fears, especially if the city is new. Medical emergency monitoring can ease your fears; with help just a button press away.

Do you or a family member use alert medical services in a new or alternative way?

Personal Alert for the Elderly
Personal Alert for the Elderly

  • Have you begun to worry about the health of an elderly loved one, and perhaps heard of the elderly personal alarm in your search to ease the stress?
  • Have you noticed a decline in strength or mobility, fainting spells, or been informed by a doctor of increased risks of heart attack or strokes for your loved ones?
  • Have you wondered if having a medical alert device is something that could be of benefit of to your family?

You are not alone. Millions of people and families around the world have had to find the time to ensure elderly safety for thousands of years. But within our current society, jobs demand longer hours, and families often live far apart from each other.

Caring for our elderly loved ones is not as simple as it used to be. That’s why personal alarms for the elderly has been the runaway successful technology that has provided countless families with peace of mind and security, knowing their loved ones will always have access to emergency services.

The following is a series of testimonials from subscribers who have benefited from the simple and effective service of personal alarms for elderly people.

“I began using an elderly personal alarm in 2009. I had started to have fainting spells, but fortunately nothing had happened apart from some stiff muscles from falling. About a year after I had subscribed to the service, I had another fainting spell that caused me to break my hip. Without my elderly personal alarm, who knows how long I may have lain on the floor in agony. With it, I was able to get an ambulance within minutes, and my children arrived at the hospital just after I got there. It saved me from a lot of pain, if I had just been lying on the floor with no one to find me!” (Janice, 81)

“My father just signed up for a medical alert device two months ago. He had a stroke that left him with some difficulty in his mobility, and my brother and I were concerned about his safety, especially going up and down the stairs. He hasn’t had to use it yet, but we certainly feel relieved knowing that he can always access emergency services if anything ever happens to him.” (Joe, 31, and Tony, 34)

“My wife and I both use an elderly personal alarm in our home. Even though we live together, we are hard of hearing, and often on separate floors. This way, if an emergency happens, either of us can get the assistance we need without having to worry about calling for each other and maybe not hearing anything. The response center knows that we live together, and can make sure that emergency services know that there are two of us in the house. We are happy to be subscribers, and can go about our own business in the house with peace of mind now.” (Alexander, 75).

Each of these stories demonstrates the practicality and value of getting an elderly personal alarm before you actually find yourself in a situation where you need emergency assistance, but can’t quite get the help you need.

In summary this article shows a series of testimonials describing the essential service of an elderly personal alarm, and how it can be a beneficial contributor to your health while relieving your worries.

How to Set a Loved One Up with a Medical Alerts System

If you know a beloved older relative who needs a medical alerts system, you’re not alone. Today, many people struggle to care for elderly loved ones and to support their continued independence. Choosing the right medical alerts system for a senior is really a perfect way to ensure that he or she will be cared for in the event of falls or other dangerous health issues.

Without this type of system, an elderly person may not be able to reach a phone in order to ask for help. To give you some practical advice about choosing these systems, we’ve compiled a short guide to setting up an alert medical system for your loved one.

Choose a Trustworthy Medical Alarm CompanyMedical alarms for elderly are very important accessories that have the potential to save lives. To make sure that you’re buying the best alert medical system on the market, you should consider an alert medical alarm provider’s business reputation. Working with larger companies is usually a pretty safe bet, as these alert medical firms have a bigger network of dedicated response team members who may have specialized EMT (emergency medical technician) training.

However, some smaller companies do offer personalized services that may be perfect for your elderly relative. When researching companies, be sure to collect quotations for services. If you’re carrying the cost of the system and hardware, you’ll need to know that you’re getting a decent deal for a panic button system and its medical alarm monitoring system. Talking to company representatives online may be an option; however, you may also shop for these medical alert button systems from the comfort and privacy of your own home. Today, many people do purchase alert medical systems via the World Wide Web.

You may rent or buy a base unit and then subscribe to the medical alarm monitoring service. Deciding how to pay is a personal choice. In general, buying a panic button may be a wise decision if you can afford to do this for your elderly relative.

Always consult with your elderly relative before ordering a medical alarm for elderly; it’s really important to get his or her input before you make a decision like this. If your relative is resistant to the idea of wearing a panic button, try to gently reinforce the positive benefits of this type of medical alarm system. Let your loved one know that some companies offer wristband panic buttons that may be more to his or her liking.

Help Your Relative to Understand the System – Once you’ve chosen the right system and received an alarm medical device, you’ll need to test out the panic button with your elderly relative to be certain that it’s working correctly. Be sure to read all package directions before performing a test. These panic buttons will come with instructions that include detailed set-up guidelines. Follow all instructions properly and then perform your first medical alert services test. If all is well, sit down and explain to your relative exactly how the button should be used.

Now that you know the set-up steps to follow, you’ll be ready to give your beloved senior more independence and protection while they are in their own home.

Considering a Medical Alert System? 4 Facts You Need To Know

Considering a Medical Alert System? 4 Facts You Need To KnowDo you remember the old alert medical commercial from the late 80’s? It depicted an elderly woman who could be seen onscreen, lying on the floor, feigning a broken hip. She was shouting, “Help, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” albeit, rather unconvincingly. While we may have found it comical in nature when we were younger, as we age that commercial seems to hit home more and more. What would you do in the event of an emergency where your parents were incapacitated and you are unavailable?

Medical alert systems made their debut in the 1980’s and have since become essential in the homes of the elderly. There was a time where there was no middle ground for seniors; you had the option of a nursing home or a hospital bed. With these obviously banal options, families were looking for a better solution that would meet the needs of the aging population. Built from this growing need, medical alert systems were born.

Built on the infrastructure of an alarm company, emergency medical alert systems offered a solid solution, providing retirees with the highly desirable option of staying in their homes and retaining a remnant of their independence while ensuring that they are well cared for in the event that unforeseen circumstances should arise and they find themselves home alone.

Fact #1: The chances of a fatality as the result of a fall increase exponentially as we age.

30% of seniors over the age of 65 will have a tumble this year.

Fact #2: Of that 30%, the chances of survival are 500% less likely if help does not arrive within the first 12 hours following the incident. If help arrives immediately? You have a 90% chance of survival.

Fact #3: Statistics compiled from the Consumer Product Safety Council indicate that of all emergency room visits from patients over the age of 65, 60% are due to a slip, trip or fall.

Fact #4: A quick dash from the kitchen to the bathroom can result in a fall. Generally thought of us as non-fatal injury, falls are the most common cause of injury related death in people aged 65 and older.

If you have an aging parent and are considering your options, medical alert services might just be worth a look. At a glance, the system is simple. In the event that your loved one is injured or sick, they simply press the medical alert button on either their wrist or neck and it notifies the medical alert company who immediately call the appropriate first responders. They also alert medical emergency contacts, so you’ll know what’s happening, while it is happening, putting your family immediately at ease.

There’s no price that can be put on the safety and well being of a loved one. We all want our family with us for as long as possible and to live a long, healthy, independent life and the mass of alert medical devices available today seem to be able to afford us just that.

Do Emergency Alert Systems Work Outdoors?

For individuals with serious medical conditions, medic alert systems can offer a great sense of security in the home. These personal emergency response systems come in the form of pendants which are typically worn around the neck. The simple “one-button” feature to call 911 make these devices extremely user friendly. The pendants are waterproof so they can be worn in the shower or tub for added protection. The typical system can function in a two-story home, cover approximately 3,500 sq. feet, and reach up to 400 feet outside of the house. These systems can aid in the independence of seniors while relieving some anxiety for their family members. There are some things to keep in mind while shopping for a personal emergency response system that is right for you.
    1. You need to check with your home phone and internet provider to make sure the system will work with their plan. When choosing a medic alert system, be sure to ask the representative from the company about their compatibility with your provider. They should be able to tell you whether or not the system will work outside of your home. In most cases, a land line will be required. There are a couple of systems that will work anywhere outdoors, The Wellcore Personal Emergency Response System, The MobileHelp Medical Alert System and the Lifestation 911 Phone System , that can connect to some cell phone providers, however, they have limited coverage when activated outside the home.
    1. Check to see if the system will be installed for you by a representative (usually for a fee), or if the system will come as is. If this is the case be sure there are instructions for installation included.  Either way, it is important to always test the range of the system after installation. The time to find out there are issues with the range outside of your home is NOT when you are having an emergency!
    1. There are a few extra services that medic alert systems can provide. These include glucose monitoring reminders, and medication alerts. Make sure to ask what added on services can be purchased for your convenience. Some systems come with “fall- down” detection which will alert the system if the user has fallen.
Medic alert systems are a valuable tool in a near-home emergency. Whether the problem is a fall, a heart attack, a stroke, or any other emergency brought on by a medical condition, these systems can save a life by the simple press of a button.  Newer systems are now able to be tethered to a cell phone plan, but it is always best to test the range of any system that you choose before you have an emergency.

3 Reasons Medical Alert Systems Bring Families Together

$

Medical alert and home alarm systems have changed the lives of the elderly, sick, disabled, and even their family members; from the way they interact with each other to the comfort they experience and how their families can help. Their relationships have a chance to improve, while enhancing their overall happiness.

Since the introduction of medical alert and home alarm systems in the 1970’s, they have gradually become more accessible and affordable, which is extremely beneficial for lower income families that have difficulty paying for such medical supplies. With technological advances and the support of social programs, these families can now benefit from affordable and accessible medical alert systems along with other medical resources.

In addition to acquiring these medical alert and alarm systems at lower costs and with ease, families experience other benefits through these alert systems that allow them to engage more frequently, support each other and live happier lives.

Home Sweet Home

The elderly, sick and disabled are now able to live safer, while in the comfort of their own homes, rather than a nursing home, hospital or rehabilitation center. This also depends on the well-being of the person. Sometimes the condition of the person may be too severe not to be placed in one of these establishments. Needless to say, if the condition of the person is manageable and they can support themselves to an extent, then they will have the option of living in their own home.

Although medical alert systems sometimes give the elderly, sick and disabled the choice of living at home, this doesn’t mean medical alert systems don’t benefit people in nursing homes, hospitals or rehabilitation centers. They’re quite significant in either case regardless of the location or person. For those lucky enough and who choose to do so, living at home can add more comfort and overall happiness to their lives.

The Parent in All of Us

For those who’ve experienced parenthood know that it takes much effort, strength and the choice to do so, but in the end it’s all worth it. Parents get to experience the joy of raising their children, but there might come a time when a children take care of their parents, while other times, someone chooses to help a friend or another family member if they become sick, disabled or too old to take care of themselves.

From my perspective, no elderly person wants to go into a nursing home, which is why a friend or family member can be their caretaker. Similar to parenting, it’s a choice; one that takes strength and much effort. For those willing to do so understand what love, family and friendship truly mean.

Once the choice to take care of a family member or friend is made, this is where medical alert and alarm systems assist in the palliative process. A family member or friend won’t be there every second of the day, but with the right balance of medical support and love, these people will live happier knowing that others still care about them and they can live their regular lifestyles to an extent.

Families Ties

When someone takes care of another family member or friend in a time of weakness it shows they care. Although this person gives up their time for another, it doesn’t mean they won’t receive something in return. Much is actually gained during this time of sacrifice through family bonding, interpersonal connections and friendship.

If someone chooses to help a family member or friend and will always be there for them, then their relationship will grow stronger throughout the palliative process. The caretaker will bond with their family member or friend simply by being there for them.

Medical alert and home alarm systems assist in allowing this bond to occur. These medical systems give family members and friends the potential to connect and grow in their relationships. Other medical technologies also benefit the elderly, sick and disabled, but medical systems, such as alarm and alert systems, are major contributors to the bonding and growth these people experience with others during the palliative process.

Vacationing with the Grandparents: A Smart Checklist

by Stacey Thompson

This is a new year, and of course, one of the things that comes to mind are travel plans for the impending vacations! A family vacation that involves the older folks can be a challenge to plan for and execute (as if it wasn’t hard enough when you have small children!), and the proper preparations and contingencies must be put in place in order to keep the family members’ spirits and bodies happy and healthy.

Like children, our senior folk have an array of special needs that must be met everyday and on particular situations, and in order for everyone to keep enjoying their very limited vacation time, these needs must be met. Based on my personal experience with my own gramps and nana, I shall create a short but complete checklist of things you should prepare for.

Meds and Tools
First and foremost, the physical health of our beloved elderly must be cared for. This actually starts with their physician: he/she must provide you with a complete list of medicines and medical devices (nebulizers, syringes, etc.) that they will need while they travel.

It is important that all medications are stocked, and provide a generous allowance in amount just in case the vacation time is extended (whether it was intended to or not). Along with their regular medications, bring the basic assortment of meds for the usual ailments (colds, muscle pain, diarhhea, etc.).

At the risk of sounding naggy, check the expiration dates of the medicines, and know how to use the medical devices that they will need to be used.

Slightly related to meds; consider inoculations (vaccinations) for them, as well as everybody else making the trip.

Accessibility and Medical Alert Devices
Getting around can be a challenge for some of the seniors, so make sure you have the necessary aids to their movement and comfort. Things like walkers, crutches, wheelchairs, braces, crutches, and other related items are going to be on the bulkier side, so plan ahead and make room. Better yet, assign a younger member of the family to be the senior’s guardian for the trip.

Medical alert devices are very effective tools to give your senior the option to call for help even when nobody is around to assist. There are also software-based solutions that run in smartphones and other computing gadgets.

Sundries
Everyone needs the basic toiletries and other personal care items, but our elders will need a few more. Things like adult diapers, denture adhesive, and other assorted sundries must be considered and stocked sufficiently for the coming trip. This is especially needed if the venue for the vacation is a third world country, as not all supplies may be available in their local shops.

Clothes Appropriate to the Weather
Temperature and weather extremes are not conditions you should expose your grand folks to. Pack the proper clothes and clothing accessories for them so they won’t end up getting sick in the middle of the vacation, diminishing the experience for them as well as everyone else.

Spirit of Fun and Adventure
Everyone’s supposed to be made happy by this trip, so don’t lose sight of that! It’s these moments with the family that your venerable parents treasure, especially towards the last days of their lives.

Don’t waste a single moment. Have a load of fun in your vacations as this year unfolds!

Hazards At Home: Tips For Keeping Your Kids Safe

Child Safety Tips
Child Safety Tips

Did you know that every year, an average of 40, 000 children in America have an injury or illness so serious that it requires that a parent alert medical services? Is it entirely inconceivable that you might not be at their side when this catastrophe occurs? Would your child or their friend know to call 911 if the worst should happen?

Leaving a sick child at home is a terrifying thought for parents and guardians alike. The thought of being unavailable to your child when you are needed most can be devastating. Whether your child clambers up a tree and takes a tumble, fracturing a limb, or suffers from a debilitating medical condition such as epilepsy, the reality is that we cannot keep tabs on our children around the clock (as much as we would like to).

It is a well-documented fact that children are actually more susceptible to injure themselves while at home. Why? It is the one place where a child feels the most secure and is more likely to take the risk of jumping off the back porch for the eleventh time or believing a sibling who tells them that the wild berries are candy (not that this writer has ever done that, of course). While we cannot be at the disposal of our tots and teenagers all the time, there are a number of ways in which we can mitigate the likelihood of injury or illness, however minor.

1. Medical Alert ID Bracelets

If your child has a life-threatening allergy, you are probably already familiar with medical alert jewelry. This small bracelet is emblazoned with the medical identification symbol for the American Medical Association. The medical alert bracelet will alert medical first attenders (or passersby) of conditions such as asthma, food allergies, epilepsy and diabetes. This information can be invaluable when seconds matter. If your child does not already, make sure they get one!

 2. Household Cleaners & Medication

The old adage “out of sight, out of mind” applies here. While enviable, the curiosity of children can get them into a heap of trouble. It only takes a second for a child to wrestle the lid off the container of dishwasher tablets under the sink. Similarly, teenagers seem to be drawn to daredevil type activities that can make them sick or seriously injure them. Keep everyone safe by keeping household cleaners and medications out of reach and out of sight.

 3. Medical Alert Devices

More commonly used for assisting the elderly, if you have a child who struggles with a permanent medical condition a medical alert alarm could afford you and your family peace of mind. These small, inconspicuous medical alarms can be worn around the neck or wrist and have a large button affixed to them. In the event of an emergency at home, your child can press the medical alert button, which relays a message through the systems base and sound the medical alert alarm, making an immediate call to the response center. The response center will notify not only the authorities, but the listed emergency contact as well.

Have you ever dealt with a medical emergency at home? Are you confident in your child’s ability to alert medical and emergency services if the worst should come to pass?

Medical Alerts: This is a subject area I am passionate about.  The son and son-in-law of elderly parents, this is something near and dear to my heart.  Years ago, my father-in-law was diagnosed with a rare disease, similar to ALS.  Although his physical health is failing him, mentally, he is as sharp as he ever was.  With that being said, a fall of some sort would be devastating to him and because of that, my mother-in-law is very hesitant to leave him alone.  This makes her (and him) a prisoner in her home.  When she leaves home, she is anxious about how her husband is doing.

The family has talked a lot about sending my father to an assisted care facility.  None of us want that, nor does he.  So what do we do?  At a trade show  a few years ago I was introduced to a series of products called medical alerts.  What these products do is basically allow someone to press a button and this will establish communication with a medical alert monitoring or response center.  Whether a person is in the shower, lying in bed, or sitting on the sofa watching television, medical alert systems allow them to live independently while having medical help readily available.  This opens up a new world.  My mother in law may now go out and shop and have peace of mind that if something happens to my father-in-law, a medical response center may be immediately notified.

Medical alerts, or medical alert systems are not expensive products.  The essentially consist of a few major components; the transmitter (panic button), alert receiver, and the response center.  Although there are only a few pieces to these systems, there are distinct differences between the various systems marketing today.  Many companies out there, especially online companies, will attempt to mislead or take advantage of the elderly.  What we want to do in the blog is provide an unbiased medical alert review so if you are purchasing a home medical alert, you have the knowledge you need to make a good decision.

Medical Alert Systems

When choosing a home medical alert system, here are the basic things to look out for:

  • The products physical components like the panic transmitter and receiver need to be reliable, high quality products.   It will defeat the purpose if you do not have complete confidence in the hardware of the products you are using to help monitor your loved one but are always wondering if the hardware pieces will be there for you.
    • Where are the products made?
    • Is there a warranty?
    • Are the hardware and software maintained and periodically checked and updated?
    • Is it easy to install the hardware and hook it up to your home phone system?
  • The monitoring center is where many companies will either overcharge their customers or skimp on quality to make extra money.  Many companies will tend to lure customers into their system and will attempt to make it up with shoddy or low quality medical alert monitoring centers.Trained Medical Response Personnel
    • Don’t go by cost alone. Get some different pricing and if one is an out-lier, whether too low or too high, this should raise a red flag.
    • Where is your monitoring center?  Is it local or overseas?  Is English the primary language?
    • Are the workers in the medical alert monitoring center trained in emergency response procedures?
    • What is the average response time for calls?
    • Does the alert response center charge you for extra calls or is there a limit to the number of calls?

Although this is not a comprehensive list, it shows you some of the major things one should consider when deciding on medical alert system.  The various blog articles we have here will go into deeper detail.  If you have any questions or would like some unbiased feedback, feel free to send me an email at info@lonsomejim-film.com.

FPC1225 Window LED Candle Transcript

The FPC1225 ABZ and the ABZ has got the antique or the oil-rubbed bronze base. It takes two C batteries. Snap them in like that.

Once you put the batteries in, it does feel sort of substantial. I mean it’s heavier than I thought it was going to be when I saw it online. Here’s the photocell and then on the back is the selector all the way up. It turns it to a constant glow and then the middle selector makes it flicker.

The one that I chose to get was the orange flame versus the white flame and so essentially just turn it on and there you go.  Let it flicker.

BL404 Mini LED Marker Lights Video Transcript

Hi I’m Aaron Goldy. And I would like to show you how to use the Xodus Mini LED Guide Light.

The guide light comes in a set of 4 with the batteries already included. All that is required to activate each light is to remove the plastic strip. The light will turn on automatically when the environment gets dark. So you won’t see it light up right away. But thanks to this energy saving feature the light can operate on one battery for over a year. When the time does come to replace the batteries simply twist off the back of the light to access the battery compartment.

The purpose of the Mini LED Guide Light is to mark things you want to find or avoid while walking around your house in the dark. Here in my living room I frequently have trouble finding this light switch and wind up bumping into this wall instead.

So this is where I am going to use the guide lights. The lights come with a reusable adhesive pad that allows you to install them on any surface without risk of damage to that surface. If the adhesive becomes dirty, simply clean it with a damp towel allow it to air dry and you can continue to use it.

The combination of adhesive mounting and battery power means the Mini LED Guide Light can go anywhere. From marking hallways and sharp corners to guiding you to light switches and up stairways.

The Mini LED Guide Light can help you find the way.

How to Use the BL300 Glowing Key Fob Video Transcript

I’m Aaron Goldy I’m gonna show you how to use the Xodus glowing key fob.

The key fob comes with batteries already installed so all you have to do to activate it is to pull out the plastic strip. The light will start glowing immediately and will continue to do so for a year or more on fresh batteries.

Once you do finally need to change the batteries simply pop off the back of the fob to access the battery compartment. Now you can clip the fob onto your keys and you’re ready to go.

The glow from the fob will be almost unnoticeable in normal light but accidentally drop your keys in a dark parking lot and the fob will let you find them immediately.

The key fob can also help you find your keys in the bottom of a purse or bag, and if you need to find something else simply hold the button on the fob and it brightens to serve as a standard key chain flashlight.

Using The BL600 Series Deck Marker Lights Video

Hi my name is a Aaron Goldy. Today I’m going to show you how to use the Xodus deck marker light.

First thing to do when you get your new deck mark light is to install the battery. It takes three AA and to install them remove the mounting plate remove the battery housing or and plug in the batteries. This is specifically designed to be the easy as possible there are no screws, no tools required. Put the batteries in if you put the sensor in a little bit of shadow you should see the light turn on. This means its working we can put everything back together We’re ready to take this outside.

Now the deck marker light comes with two ways to install. First these adhesive strips. You would want to use these on siding or other places in your home where you don’t want to drill holes. Use them attach them to the back of your mounting plate line them up with your wall and press them into place.

The second way to install the deck marker light with the mounting screws. You would want to use these on wooden surfaces like a fence or deck posts. To use the mounting screws remove the mounting plate line it up against the wall and drive in the screws.

Once you’ve got your mounting plate secure and level simply clip the rest of the deck marker light into place. The light will turn on automatically at dusk and off at dawn. It will continue to operate for at least a year on a single set of batteries.

And now you’re ready to enjoy your deck!

Video Transcript

The first thing in new motion deck light needs are batteries. It doesn’t require any tools just pop off the mounting bracket and unsnap the battery housing door. The motion deck light takes three “C” batteries and continues to run on these batteries for between four months and two years depending on usage. As you can see the light turned on right away because I have my hand covering the sensor. This lets us know that it’s working we can put everything back together. We are ready to head outside.

Installing the motion decking light, you want to select a location that allows the motion sensor light to cover the entire area were you would expect someone to need to use the light. We made the motion sensor angle as wide as possible to 160 degrees but the maximum range of thirty feet. You also want to install the lights at a level that allows the LED on the underside to cover the entire space you want to light.

When you have selected your location the motion deck light is installed with the included screws. The deck light comes with three screws; two for the mounting bracket and one security screw that makes the light harder to remove if you want to install it in a public place. To use the screws, detach the bracket, line it up on the wall, and drive it into place.

With the motion deck light installed you can select the bright mode you want it to operate. There are two switches on the underside, one for high and low brightness, and one for long and short duration. In in a walkway, for example, you’ll probably want short duration and high-brightness. In a living space like a deck or patio you’d want long-duration and low brightness. Remember deck light will always check for motion before it shuts itself off so it won’t leave you in the dark.

The motion deck light turns on automatically in low-glow mode at dusk and will brighten when motion is detected. On average the motion deck light will operate for one year or more on one set of batteries, depending on the frequency of use, and the brightness and duration settings you select.

Carlon Motion Entry Alert Kit – RC4610

Hi this is Michael with 1800Doorbell.com. In this video I’m going to be giving you a quick introduction and overview the RC4610 also known as the SS4610.

This is a wireless motion activated sensor that sends a wireless signal to a plug in Carlon receiver.

The transmitter in this kit is the RC4600T and it’s a passive infrared based motion detector and when it does detect motion it’s going send a wireless signal up to 150 feet to a compatible Carlon compatible receiver.

This product is powered by four AA size alkaline batteries you can see those here you basically the snap of this back compartment to change the batteries out.

On the inside your going notice these little metal loops and those are the same metal loops that you’re going see on the back of the Carlon transmitters and receivers. And these are how you set your privacy codes. 99% of the time you’re not even going need to set these codes but if you do have some privacy issues or other products interfering this is where you going do that.

You’re also going to notice there’s a little black button here and that’s how you cycle through one have a different melodies or chime sounds that the product will transmit to the receiver.

There’s also a small dip switch here and that dip switch all the way to the right is set to melody mode so it’s going to transmit and have the receiver play a melody sound. But if you switch it to the left it plays more of a kind of a standard alarm type sound.

The receiver that ships with this kid is the RC3733D. For this video I’m using an RC3253, very similar products the only real difference is the speaker size is a tad larger on the RC3253. But from a functionality perspective on what you’re going hear essentially the same thing product plugs into a standard wall outlet.

It’s also important to note that this transmitter is compatible with some other Carlon battery-operated chimes as well.

On the back in this receiver there’s a dip switch for low, medium, and high volume. Here’s the the screw you unscrew that to set the privacy codes as I showed you those little metal wired loops should you ever need to change those.

Here’s just a quick demonstration you can see in the plug I’ve got the wireless receiver plugged into the wall and you can see that motion sensor sitting on the top of the brick here. Rather than mounting and I just wanted to give a quick demonstration of how it works as I approach once I break that monitored area. Which I’ve kinda got it angled away from me now. You can adjust and pivot it around from a mounting perspective to pick up a wider area or smaller area.

But as I walked through you’ll hear the chime sound. So I mentioned there are two modes that you can set this to. One is to have the receiver play one of the eight melodies available. And one is more of an alarm mode so a I step in front of the monitored area you’ll hear more the alarm mode sound.

When you need a motion entrance alert or entry alarm type of product that’s inexpensive and you don’t need a range of more than a 100 or 150 feet the RC4610 is a great option. It’s compatible with most of the Carlon wireless products it’s expandable with push buttons and receivers. Whether they’re plug in or battery-operated.

It’s very easy to install, very reliable, and at a great price point whether you’re a residential home-owner, a manager at a store, a contractor etc. this just a great product.

Thanks and have a great day and as always please feel free to call us at 1-800-366-7235 or send us an email at info@1800doorbell.com

Changing the Privacy Code on Your Carlon Chimes

Hey this is Michael with 1800Doorbell.com a Lord Henry Enterprises Company. And what you see in front of me is the RC3250 Wireless Door Chime Kit from Carlon. And what we’re going to discuss in this video are privacy codes. And essentially what privacy codes do are enable you to change the wireless operating frequency of the product. If you’re getting interference from other devices or lets say you have a series of push buttons and receivers in your home or office and you want to isolate certain ones within themselves you would change the privacy codes.

So we got the two pieces of the RC3250 kit here we have got the 3301 the RC3301, and then here is the RC3253 which is the receiver or the push button. You’ll notice there is take a little screwdriver and push that in
and the plate pops off. And what you will notice are a series of little circular wires product line from Carlon. And on the back with a screw.

What I am going to do is unscrew this. And then pop off the door. And what were going to see is some corresponding wires in the same number as these. And changing the privacy code is as easy as taking something like fingernail
clippers and snipping wires on the transmitter and then snipping the corresponding wires wire 1 and 5 on the transmitter I need to so that is going to insure that both of these frequency.

If you have got a series of products in your home or office and you want make sure they’re only communicating with themselves. Then you would just match these privacy codes with one another. By default these wires are not
snipped and obviously once you snip the wires you cant go back. And so if you accidentally snip that same wire or combination of wires on the receiver as well. This is going to prevent neighboring push buttons from interfering
with your system and any other devices that could happen to be operating on the same frequency.

So this was a quick video please give us a and we would be happy to give you some help on this product or any other product line. Most of them operate on the same premise its dip switches is a little different depending
on the product line. Thanks and have a great day!

If you’re a small business owner, security should be a top priority for you. After all, this is your business we’re talking about — you’ll want to do everything you can to protect your valuable inventory, files and technology. A quality security setup will also help you protect yourself and your employees during an emergency, no matter how extreme. It’s an unfortunate reality, but you can never be too careful these days.

Investing in quality business security products for your office, store or shop, whether they’re advanced or basic, can make all the difference in deterring crime. Theft, robbery and burglary are common crimes that small businesses and offices face, yet a high-quality security system can help prevent or manage situations that are even more serious. Security products can even help you monitor your own employees and ensure they stay on their best behavior. As a small business owner, you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on a product that works — in fact, some of the simplest small business security solutions are the most effective.

As security system experts, we’re proud to supply a wide selection of office security products to keep you and your employees safe and protect your business. We’ve rounded up a list of our favorite security products, all designed to deter crime and help give you peace of mind. Buy a standalone product to help enhance security, or purchase multiple solutions to create a complete system to best protect your business.

Our Top Office and Small Business Security Products

  1. Basic Security Camera Systems – A simple security camera setup, like the GE LH45136, will have everything you need to effectively monitor your office or small business. This product in particular features a wireless color camera with night vision, so you can clearly monitor your building for suspicious activity from any distance no matter the time of day. An easy-to-use monitor gives you a crystal clear view of the surveillance area.
  2. Fake Security Cameras – For those who don’t have the budget for a full-blown video surveillance system, dummy security cameras can be just as effective at deterring crime. With realistic features including blinking lights and official surveillance stickers, these products really do look like the real deal for a fraction of the price. We carry a wide assortment of realistic looking fake security cameras for business use, including the Outdoor Dummy Dome and Indoor/Outdoor Dummy Security Camera that are perfect for improving your building’s security both indoors and outside.
  3. Emergency Exit Alarms – Emergency exits are just that: doors that should only be accessed in case of emergency. However, back doors and side exits can also serve as prime points of entry for burglars and intruders. A reliable alarm system, like the Alarm Lock Paddle Bar Emergency Exit Alarm, will not only discourage employees and visitors from using your emergency exits, but will also alert you should an intruder come through a restricted area. This product in particular will sound an extra-loud alarm (roughly 95 dB) when triggered, so you won’t miss it when someone uses an unauthorized exit. Make sure to install it on a door that will serve as a safe exit during an actual emergency.
  4. Door Alarm Systems – If you’re a store or shop owner, it can be tough to monitor who is coming and going from your shop, especially if you’re having a busy day or need to spend some time in your stockroom doing inventory. Our selection of door alarm systems will emit an audible chime so you will always know whenever you have a new customer who needs attention. These products are also ideal for offices that don’t have an office secretary to handle incoming visitors.
  5. Panic Transmitters – In the event of an emergency, it’s important to think quick and take prompt action. Our collection of panic transmitters can help you effectively deal with suspicious activity or intruders by allowing you to quickly reach your office security department or to notify others in a time of crisis. The PT2500 by Dakota Alerts is a great option — it can be configured to be as simple or advanced as you want, with features such as a simple push button transmitter, door/window contacts and a long operating range.
  6. Driveway Alarm Systems – For small businesses, especially those in rural areas, it may be necessary to go beyond installing a standard door alarm system. Driveway alarm systems add an extra level of security by allowing small business owners to effectively monitor incoming visitors before they even reach your door. For those in need of a long range system, the DCMA-2500 by Dakota Alerts is great for larger properties and works in a 2,500-foot range. You won’t have to worry about false alarms triggered by falling leaves or light shadows, as this infrared system will only sound an alarm if heat is detected.
  7. Keyless Door Locks and Electronic Deadbolts – Traditional office and building keys often get lost in the day to day hustle and bustle of life. Instead of issuing each of your employees a physical key, give each of them a building access code to punch in whenever they arrive to work for the day. Our assortment of keyless door lock products have a variety of easy-to-use features including ergonomic keypads, simple programming and easy retrofits for doors of all materials and locksets. Instead of having to change the locks every time an employee loses a key or leaves your company, you’ll simply have to change the passcode, saving you time and money. This small change can boost your office security to another level.
  8. Long Range Wireless Doorbells – These products have a variety of powerful features such as visual indicators when someone arrives at your door (great for loud environments) and multiple push buttons to distinguish between front and back entry. These products aren’t just just great for monitoring doors – the DC-1000 by Dakota Alerts offers programmable window sensors to let you know right away if someone opens a window in your office or shop. These long range doorbell systems are also great for monitoring package deliveries to your office or business.
  9. Security Signs and Stickers – Sometimes the simplest products get your point across the best. Our assortment of security decals and signs lets visitors know that they’re under surveillance (or give the impression that they are) in order to deter crime or unwanted behavior. These are perfect to place on windows or around entrances or exits.
